Jamaica was granted independence by the United Kingdom in 1962. There are two main political parties there, the People's National Party, and the Jamaica Labour Party. Election campaigns are pretty tough down there. This is how it works : Gangs affiliated with each party dominate certain neighborhoods in Kingston, the capital. Pretty much, the party that your neighborhood gang is affiliated with will carry your district overwhelmingly if you get the picture.   Counter-intuitively the Labour Party there was and is the conservative party, and the People's National Party is socialist leaning and its leaders flirt with Cuba. Marijuana , also known as ganja, is a widespread phenomenon in Jamaica, and a homegrown religion called Rastafarianism...

Julius What's His Name loses his license CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

November 29, 2019   JULIUS WHAT'S HIS NAME LOSES HIS LICENSE “Darkness warshed over the Dude—darker’n a black steer’s tookus on a moonless prairie night. There was no bottom.” The Stranger in The Big Lebowski     One thing no taxi driver wants to do  is fall asleep behind the wheel while the car he's sitting in is moving.     It's  something that Julius What's His Name had done once before. It was around 3:30    on an August Wednesday morning. He was heading back to the garage a little bit early because he was pretty tired. He had actually pulled over  by Madison Square Park on Madison Avenue where 24th Street would have been if they hadn't put a park there. He got in the backseat after locking the front doors, curled up  and tried to sleep without any luck. He got back in the driver's seat and scooted up to 54th Street where there's an all-night deli. Murphy's Law Trump took the Iron Horse out to Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, to check on the state of his $921,000.23. Prospect Park had been closed for a long time since "the Labor Day Ganja Riot."
